Work to be performed:
- Concrete stripping
- Drilling for dowels
- Guardrail demolition
Period: May to November 2002
Challenges and special requirements:
- Traffic must not be impeded by the transportation and operation of equipment or the littering of lanes with concrete or reinforcing steel chips and splinters
- Vibration standards must be respected, and vibrations transmitted to the existing structure must be kept to a minimum
- Stripping and drilling work must be precise and completed quickly
- Demolition of the bridge span with the hydraulic shears must not damage the existing concrete pillars
- Deadlines must be strictly adhered to.
Equipment used:
- Guiding frame with concrete machining tool
- Hydraulic excavator with hydraulic demolition grip
- KX-41 excavator with hydraulic drill
