Rebuilding of three bridges over Highway 73 - Rebuilding of Pierre-Laporte Bridge pillars (Quebec City, Quebec)

Work to be performed:

  • Concrete stripping
  • Drilling for dowels
  • Guardrail demolition

Period: May to November 2002

Challenges and special requirements:

  • Traffic must not be impeded by the transportation and operation of equipment or the littering of lanes with concrete or reinforcing steel chips and splinters

  • Vibration standards must be respected, and vibrations transmitted to the existing structure must be kept to a minimum

  • Stripping and drilling work must be precise and completed quickly

  • Demolition of the bridge span with the hydraulic shears must not damage the existing concrete pillars

  • Deadlines must be strictly adhered to.

  • Guiding frame with concrete machining tool
  • Hydraulic excavator with hydraulic demolition grip
  • KX-41 excavator with hydraulic drill
